Game of Thrones is getting a trio of badass new female characters next season. Obara (Keisha Castle-Hughes), Tyene (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers), and Nymeria Sand (Jessica Henwick) are the daughters of Oberyn Martell, also known as the Sand Snakes.
“I don’t know about you, but I like what I see,” says Vanity Fair‘s Joanna Robinson. Well many people on Twitter do not like what they see, as the images are already causing some controversy that has nothing to do with nipple armor. Many fans apparently envisioned the characters as having much darker skin than the actresses cast, a bone of contention we probably should have seen coming considering that in 2013 George R.R. Martin was forced to defend Chilean actor Pedro Pascal playing the Sand Snakes’ father.
IRL, Keisha Castle-Hughes is half Maori, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers is part Italian, and Jessica Henwick is half Singaporean Chinese, so the problem seems to be that they’re white-passing rather than actually white.
What do you think of the new promo shots?
